Forbes magazine recently featured an article on the top ten emerging trends in the housing sector for 2013. One of the trends is home automation. The article states that smart home technology is one of the most commonly requested amenities among home buyers. The industry is projected to surge to $35.6 million by 2016 from $16.9 million in 2011. Jeff Hawk with Hawk Security & Telecommunications states, “the popularity of home automation has been increasing in recent years due to much higher affordability and simplicity through the use of smartphone and tablet technology.”
We have recently installed a home automation system in our latest development at 331 Candler Park Drive. The system will allow the homeowner to control lighting, security system with cameras, HVAC and entertainment system via an App on either an Adroid or Apple device. The system can be programmed to turn lights on and off at certain times as well as fade or brighten lights throughout the home. The security system features cameras on the front and rear porches that can be viewed remotely through the App. You can even turn the security system on and off and change the settings remotely. We have installed built-in speakers throughout the home including the back deck and garage. There is a docking station for an iPad or iPhone as well as a radio receiver to provide music throughout the home. “We’ve started offering home automation to our clients to provide them with additional convenience, comfort and security with their new home,” said Jim LaVallee, Epic Development’s principal responsible for marketing and finance.
