Celebrate Earth Day this Saturday, April 18th, by volunteering for one of two projects on the BeltLine. Park Pride, Trees Atlanta, the Atlanta BeltLine Partnership, the Atlanta Community Tool Bank and neighborhood partners are working together to remove bamboo on the Eastside Hiking Trail and planting along the paved Eastside Trail at Freedom Parkway.
The Eastside Hiking Trail is getting more and more use as people use this portion of the BeltLine to connect between Ansley Mall, Piedmont Park and surrounding area. Volunteers will remove invasive plant species to increase the area available for native plants to grow, helping to support the local wildlife food web.
Trees Atlanta continues the important job of restoring the natural beauty of the Atlanta BeltLine while focusing on creating horticultural collections. Volunteers will assist with mulching an area previously planted with trees, shrubs and perennials near the paved Eastside Trail. Mulching will help control and prevent weeds and help regulate soil moisture.
